I took this photo in the eastern Sierras, off Highway 395, at the Owens Gorge Road. I love those mailboxes and every time we travel to the Sierras, we drive by them just to see them!

Fall colors and clouds~SkyWatch Friday 103009

This ranch is right in front of the one where I board my horses in our nearby mountains. The trees were changing colors and the clouds had moved into the mountains on this afternoon a couple of weeks ago. I stopped to take this photo on my way home after visiting my horses. "O"~ABC Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Bodie is an old mining town in the Sierras, near Bridgeport, CA. We visited Bodie on two different days last August. The first time was in the afternoon. We returned the next morning. As an old mining town, Bodie took ORE (gold and silver) out of the ground. Here are some pics of Bodie, CA. ABC Wednesday for October 28, 2009.

Fall color, Bishop, CA ~ Sunday Stills 102509

On our first full day of our four day trip to Bishop and beyond, we took a less-traveled road up to Rovana. Rovana is a very tiny community just north of Bishop. We followed a road to the end, where there was a pack outfit. I wandered over and talked to the owner and hubby wandered out among the aspen. When I came back, the afternoon light was hitting these. Sunday Stills for October 25, 2009.

"N" for Norman Vineyards~ABC Wednesday 102109

"N" is for Norman Vineyards, a delightful winery up in Paso Robles. It is one of our favorite wineries there. Not only do they have excellent zinfandel, but it is also a fun place to visit! We always stop by Norman Vineyards when we visit Paso Robles. Here are some pics of our visit last December. We were on our way to Napa Valley, to visit the sister-in-law. ABC Wednesday for October 21, 2009.

"M" is for mountains~ABC Wednesday 101409

We once again headed to the Sierras last weekend. While we were there, the sky was clear and blue, but a cold front has now moved in. That is Mt. Whitney in the background and the Alabama Hills in the foreground. We love visiting the Sierras. There is so much to see~ABC Wednesday, October 14, 2009.

Road trip~ Sierras~That's My World for 101309

Hubby and I returned to the Sierras this past weekend. We love it up there and since he had a few days off, away we went! We stayed in Ridgecrest and drove out to Lone Pine and Bishop one day, then up to Kennedy Meadows the next day. Fortunately we woke up early this morning and headed out to the Alabama Hills, near Mt. Whitney. Many movies have been shot there using the rock formations. We enjoyed seeing them again and spent most of the morning there. Yes, that's hubby taking a photo! That's My World for Tuesday, October 13, 2009.

Oak Tree~Cottage Grove~Scenic Sunday 101109

Hubby and I took a 4 day trip to the Sierras recently. On this day, we drove from Ridgecrest to Kennedy Meadows and down to Kernville and Lake Isabella. We took the road to Ridgecrest from there, Highway 178 and went through some small towns by Lake Isabella. We stopped at one point and I hopped out to take this beautiful lone oak tree in a field. It was a very beautiful and quiet ride. Scenic Sunday for October 12, 2009.

"L" is for lights~ABC Wednesday 100709

On one of our trips to Napa, we stopped in Paso Robles (one of our favorite places) and stayed a couple of days. We love its wineries and countryside. On this evening, however, we visited McClintock's for dinner and I stopped to take pics of the LIGHTS at night! Aren't they pretty? ABC Wednesday for October 7, 2009.

Pinyon and mountains~That's My World 100609

Sometimes I forget that, living here in the desert, we are only 10 minutes away from mountains that range from 1,000 to 4,000 feet high. It's just a zip up Highway 74 to a completely different environment. I have a good friend who lives up there, among the pinyon trees, and how I envy her! But, alas, with 5 horses, I need a lot that is bigger than 1 acre, like she has. I drive by these roads and pinyon trees every time I go to visit my own horses, who are further up the mountain, on 9 acres. But, on a day like last Saturday, who could resist the smell of the trees, the beauty of the juniper berries, and the lure of a deserted dirt road? That's My World for Tuesday, October 6, 2009.

Autumn cottonwoods~SkyWatch Friday 100209

I found these pretty cottonwoods last weekend while searching for signs of fall. Aren't they pretty? Even though our temps are falling, we still have clear, blue sky. This morning it was cold enough to throw a blanket on our bed, here in the desert! SkyWatch Friday October 2, 2009.
