Travels in my state, California, from a native Californian.

I took this photo in the eastern Sierras, off Highway 395, at the Owens Gorge Road. I love those mailboxes and every time we travel to the Sierras, we drive by them just to see them!
These scenic buildings are across the street in Salinas, CA from the John Steinbeck museum. I liked all the colors on them! For other Scenic Sunday beautiful photos, please visit:
These pretty baskets and barrels were full of good smelling things! I took this picture last autumn when we visited Oak Glen, California, which is home to the apple orchards. "containers"...Thursday challenge for January 29, 2009. For other Thursday challenge photos, please visit:
This beautiful barn is at Halter Ranch winery in Paso Robles, CA. I love the shadows on it! For other That's My World photos, please visit: http://showyourworld.blogspot.com/
I like to TRY to keep this blog just for our California visits, which is why I called it "Sand to Sea to Mountains". California has deserts, an ocean, and LOTS of mountains. It also has wineries in both Northern California and Southern California.
Last December we traveled to Paso Robles and Napa to visit my husband's sister. She owns 10 acres of vines up by Deer Mountain, above Napa. He likes to go up there and cook a big dinner for the family (pasta) and she provides the wine! What a great idea! Anyway, since we had our daughter and her BF along, we stopped along the way to visit some great wineries! Ridge is one of them. While a bit pricey for us, she and her BF got to stop and try some of their wines. (HA! I was the "designated driver"). Their wines are available in stores down here in So. Cal, so nobody bought any wine there, but we did enjoy our visit to Ridge. See the old wine press? And, look down the rows and rows of barrels!
Not much sky here because it was raining that day, but I liked the colors on the vines, which are now resting. This was taken in December at Ridge Winery. It seemed very restful. For more SkyWatch photos, please visit Skywatch Friday at http://skyleyblogspot.com/.
I saw these in a shop in Williams, AZ. We love to stop in Williams on our way through Arizona, or to the Grand Canyon! It is such a cute, friendly town!
When we visit Paso Robles, we always stop at Dover Winery. It is a friendly, fun place! And, we LOVE their wines! These two were out in the front, by the family home. Aren't they cute? They were snuggled together! True love? For other amazing photos, please visit:
When I was off of school back in December, I got up very early one morning to drive around my town at dawn to take some photos. This was on El Paseo in Palm Desert, CA....at dawn's early light. For more photos, please visit Thursday Challenge at http://www.wordlesswednesday.com/.
Bare trees against a cloudy sky last weekend. Brrrrrrr!!!!! The wind was blowing and it was near freezing! For other That's My World entries, please visit: http://showyourworld.blogspot.com/
One of our favorite little towns is Healdsburg, CA, which is about 15 minutes north of Santa Rosa. And, our favorite breakfast place in Healdsburg is the family-owned Cousteaux Bakery. Not only is it a restaurant, but it is also a bakery, too! Ahhhhh.....the smell of freshly baked bread! And, their lattes are DELICIOUS! Oh, and their bathrooms are decorated with old wine labels (I can only speak for the women's bathroom, but I hear the men's also has wine labels!) Here are some pics!
Yes, any photo is available for purchase! I can print them on 4x6 or 8x10 photo paper. Just send me an email! deserthorses5@gmail.com
