I took this photo in the eastern Sierras, off Highway 395, at the Owens Gorge Road. I love those mailboxes and every time we travel to the Sierras, we drive by them just to see them!

Reflections: Watery Wed 10/29/08

When we went to Canyon de Chelly this summer, in August, we were surprised to see so much standing water! There was water everywhere! This little pool was right on the walkway to Canyon de Chelly, Spider Rock overview. I liked the reflection in the water.

Canyon de Chelly on an August afternoon

We stopped by Canyon de Chelly on our long vacation to the 4 corners states this summer. We arrived in the afternoon during a monsoon storm. The clouds were very pretty! There was a terrific thunderstorm that night and it knocked out the power to our hotel! The next morning we arose at 4:30 a.m. and went out to the canyon, but this picture was taken the afternoon we arrived.

photo for Watery Wednesday, October 22, 2008

I took this photo in 2006 at the Monterey Aquarium, in Monterey, CA. I liked it because the sunlight was shining down through the kelp, sending rays of light through the water. You can also see a school of small fish in the back.

Fire in the desert

As I was driving down the mountain road Saturday, I saw a plume of smoke drifting across the desert valley floor. I stopped and took these photos. It was a fire at a green waste plant in Mecca, CA.

autumn in our desert mountains

While our mountains don't have aspen, they do have a variety of trees that change colors. These are at the ranch where I board my horses. Aren't the colors pretty?

Skywatch Friday

Hubby and I woke up early our last morning this summer in Chinle, Arizona. There had been a terrific thunderstorm the previous night and we wanted to head out to Canyon de Chelly early in the morning to meet the sunrise. This is the sky that we saw. Isn't it beautiful? This is up on top of Canyon de Chelly.

Watery Wednesday October 15, 2008

Hubby took this photo on our Monterey/Carmel trip. I don't know how he does it, but he ALWAYS gets the best photos! Must be his Irish luck!

Hubby and our son went to Wyoming in 2006. This is what I missed.

Our local mountains near Palm Springs don't have aspen. Sometimes we drive over to Arizona, to the Mogollon Rim. There are pretty aspen over there, too.

Watery Wednesday

This is my photo for "watery Wednesday". Hubby actually took this pic on the "boys'" trip to Yellowstone, Wyoming in 2006. It is the Yellowstone River. I stayed at home since I couldn't take 5 days off school to go with them. It actually worked out better, since I did stay home. I adopted my second and third horses from a feedlot in Washington state, making our herd larger! My PMU (pregnant mare urine) gelding, Sunni, was my first horse that I rescued and Beauty and Gigondas were my second and third ones. So, by staying home and cruising the Internet, I saved two more lives! YEAH!

Mesa Verde

We traveled up to Mesa Verde again this summer. We went about 25 years ago, when BOTH of us could go up and down the ladders and take the guided tour of MV. HA! No more! Now we rely on our telephoto lenses! Mesa Verde is truly one of the wonders of the west. How did the Indians get there? How did they get down? How did they build their magnificant houses? Notice the one which is built right into the side of the cliff! Amazing! It was cool the day we stopped there this summer, with a nice breeze. Being up so high, Mesa Verde enjoys a wonderful view off toward the south. We could even see Shiprock in the distance. We stayed in Durango, Colorado, and drove over to MV for the day.

palms to pines

When we go to the Living Desert, both hubby and I take our cameras. I took this photo of one of their ostriches. They are out in the early morning in the giraffe enclosure. It shows palm trees and our local mountains.

Purple mountains' majesty

I took this photo one morning very early on my way out to see my horse, Sunni, when he was boarded in our desert. I got up and started driving when it was still dark. Yes, indeed, our mountains DO turn shades of pink and purple!
